SAAM – “The Sparks of Glory Musical Witness Series” - In conjunction with Music of Remembrance’s free concert-with-commentary series on the music of the Holocaust, SAM presents Aflame! Join MOR artistic director Mina Miller and guest vocalist baritone Morgan Smith for a song cycle on Nazi book bans and burnings, Harlap’s “Letters Weeping in Fire,” and chamber music from Terezín. 2:30–4 pm, Stimson Auditorium.

Open Satellite – New gallery/residency program Open Satellite - Inaugural Exhibition, “Olga Koumoundouros: A Roof Upended,” curated by Lead Pencil Studio. 5-8 pm, artist talk at 7 pm. Open Satellite is located at 989 112 Ave NE, Suite 102, Bellevue, WA 98004.

The Hedreen Gallery – “Arts Illustrated,” artwork by Sonja Ahlers, Chris Buening, and Jed Dunkerley exhibiting the myriad and dynamic ways in which contemporary artists are using illustrative drawing today.

COCA – “Inquiry as Collection: Wonder Cabinets, Collage, Assemblage “ opening & artist reception at the Shilshole Bay Beach Club. This new exhibition is an exploration of the ways in which contemporary artists deploy strategies of collecting in both two- and three-dimensional works. 5-8 pm.

Seattle Center – “Mayor's Arts Awards,” Celebrate the 2007 Mayor's Arts Awards recipients with Mayor Greg Nickels and tour the Bumbershoot Visual Arts Exhibits. Seattle Channel's Nancy Guppy will host the fifth annual Mayor's Arts Awards ceremony, noon to 1 p.m., followed by the Bumbershoot PreFunk! Party, featuring conversations and performances by Bumbershoot artists and performers in advance of the Labor Day Weekend festival's Sept. 1 opening.
