The Sunday Edition: Artists Behaving Badly

Brooklyn performance artist Duke Riley was recently detained by the NYPD for an incident involving a home-made wooden submarine, a tall-boy can of beer, and an artistic plot to commandeer a military vessel. He was charged with, among other things, 'unsafe boating.' Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly issued a statement calling the incident “marine mischief” and the “creative craft of three adventuresome individuals.” Riley's art dealers issued a statement saying that the submarine would soon be on display in their Chelsea art gallery.

Maybe you have also heard the recent story about the woman arrested for kissing a Cy Twombly painting in a fit of passion/performance art, leaving a red lipstick stain on the minimal, white canvas. Her sentencing is coming up this month.

It reminded me of an article I read years ago, about a historical (we're talkin' Renaissance-era historical) medical 'condition' in which a person viewing a work of art became so overwhelmed that they burst into seizures, shouting, hysterics, and all sorts of abnormal behavior. I can't remember the name that was given to these 'art attacks.' I once really thought I was having one, but it turns out I was just fainting from standing with locked knees for too long.

Save Your Energy

It's a slow weekend for once - but this is only the calm before the storm.

I'll be using the downtime to enact some changes on this site - so it might be up and down for the next day or two. The wait will be worth it. I'm incorporating some great new functions and some suggestions from readers.

My Moment in the Sun

I would like to thank everybody who has sent press releases, said hello, traded links, offered drinks, and generally welcomed me to the Seattle art blogging community - do you people know how nice you are?

I thought this would be an undercover operation for a little while longer, but the ante is officially upped.

I am so glad that people are finding this site and the art calendar useful. I've been wanting such a tool for a while, and thought others might as well. What is my goal, you ask? I'm promoting the live. breathe. eat. sleep. art. lifestyle. Total Art Immersion is possible and good for you! Seattle has such an abundance of museums, galleries, alternative spaces, temporary spaces, quirks, oddities, and cafe walls - Lois Lane, cultural detective and reporter for the people, is on the case, scouting venues large and small.

Oh, and Regina Hackett - you can be Brenda Starr - now who wants to be Nancy Drew?

Kwik-E Mart in Seattle

I know it's not exactly visual ART, but just in case you haven't been to the 7-Eleven/Kwik-E Mart on Denny Way, here's a few photos from last weekend.
